The advent of the Small Lot Housing Code in Victoria (SLHC) fueled a need for code-compliant house designs for a broad range of lot sizes and housing typologies.

In response we created more than a hundred standard house designs each of which may have numerous façade and material options. These designs are branded as MPS SmartHomes© and remain the intellectual property of MPS International Pty Ltd.

MPS SmartHomes© designs are available for use on registered lots to which the SLHC applies. Approved land developers/home builders can purchase a licence for a house design on a per lot basis.

MPS SmartHomes© has been a great success for our developer-builder partners and homebuyers and now represents about half of our total residential output.

MPS SmartHomes© designs are based upon townhouse or terrace typologies with built-to-boundary walls on each side and are separately titled.

Typical lot sizes range from 80 – 150sq.m which represents quite a saving in land costs compared to 300 – 500sq.m conventional lots.

House-land packages are usually sold and developed in clusters of 8 to 12 homes in a row. They can also be aggregated to become an integrated precinct of say 50 to 100 terrace homes delivering a diverse range of house sizes and configurations.

The MPS SmartHomes© range can be useful as a toolkit of parts to form a town centre neighbourhood or similar peri-urban precinct. The mere fact that both the house and lot components are standardized can speed up the feasibility process by generating known concepts and costings in an efficient manner. The embedded information in each product also helps with market appraisal.
